Chitrakadi Vati is recommended when Pitta is very low. Chitrak or Plumbago zeylanica is one of the oldest Ayurvedic plants and is one of the main ingredients of this Ayurvedic recipe. Its taste is pungent, it has light, dry and pitta-enhancing properties.
Chitrakadi Vati also contains many spices such as black pepper, pippali (Piper longum, the long pepper), Piper chaba, a variation of the long pepper, ginger and asafoetida. According to Ayurveda all these spices support digestion and Agni, the "digestive fire". In addition, various ayurvedic salts help to balance the Pitta dosha.
