Neti Pots & Nasal Care
Neti nasal cleansing pots in different shapes, colors and qualities for the traditional ayurvedic Jala Neti procedure, and Nasya oils for nasal hygiene.
Jala Neti – traditional, natural and simple
Regular cleansing of the respiratory tract and care of the nasal mucous membranes has been known in Ayurveda and other cultures and traditions for millennia and is referred to in the ancient Ayurvedic scriptures as "Jala Neti" - a term derived from Sanskrit.
Natural salt is also known for its beneficial effect on the mucous membranes and respiratory system. A nasal sinus rinse or nasal wash with a good nasal rinsing salt can cleanse the nasal mucosa and can thus support its defense function. This can contribute to the prevention and alleviation of clogged, runny nose, colds, inflammation of the frontal and paranasal sinuses, etc. while taking care for a balanced nasal irrigation.
The Neti® Pot as a nasal aspirator - easy to use
For a nasal sinus rinse, only iodine-free salt without any additives should be used. Crystal salt from the Himalayan region, pure sea salt or special neti salt are most suitable.
- For an efficient nasal rinse, mix 1% salt and lukewarm water in your Neti® Pot (2.5 g salt on 1/4 liter of water).
- Then gently insert the beak-shaped spout of the nasal aspirator into a nostril. The head is tilted slightly forward and sideways, then the neti pot is raised so that the salt water can run into the nostril and run out by itself through the lower nostril.
- Keep your mouth open throughout and breathe gently and relaxed through the open mouth.
- After this nasal wash, blow your nose through both nostrils into a tissue - this possibly dissolves further excess secretions.
- The whole procedure is then repeated with the other nostril.
The nasal rinse with a nasal rinse pot
Nasal pots traditionally consist of porcelain, ceramic, glass or metal. All nasal pots provide an effective nasal irrigation and nasal cleansing through the narrow beak, which can be easily inserted into the nostril. The content of most nasal aspirators is optimized for an effective nasal rinse. We recommend to regularly clean your nasal pot (for example in a dishwasher with a 70° wash program) to prevent contamination and to always have a hygienically clean nasal pot at hand.
Regular nasal wash - a real gain!
The frequency of nasal irrigation depends on the individual needs and circumstances of each person. With a normal functioning of the nasal mucosa, a nasal rinse procedure 1 to 2 times a week is recommended to support and promote the natural functions. The nasal mucous membrane with its thin layer of mucous, together with the small cilia in the nose, ensure that dirt, detoxifying substances of the body and even pathogens are flushed out of the nose.
If the nose is clogged, the natural secretion flow is disturbed. Then, a Jala Neti procedure, ideally on a daily basis, can dissolve the viscous mucus and flush bacteria out of the nose. The regular nasal wash with a neti pot also ensures that the nasal mucosa is moistened, which can counteract swelling.
The nasal wash as an effective household remedy
To preclude common cold and swollen nasal mucosa, the Jala Neti nasal rinse with a Neti® Pot can be practised 1 to 2 times a week. In case of heavy mucus, or in case of infection, daily and repeated use is recommended.
For pollen allergy and, for example, in cases chronic night sinus inflammation, a Jala Neti treatment is recommended in the evening before going to bed to help you breathe better at night.
Often dry air at home or in the office or other reasons cause the nasal mucosa to become chronically dry - a Jala Neti nasal rinse can be applied here, depending on individual needs.
Even after an operation in the nasal area, a nasal wash may be helpful, yet with enough care in regards to the frequency and tolerability.
The daily nasal wash can be a great support for your well-being and health. For severe health problems in the nasal area, however, we recommend consulting a doctor or health practitioner.
