The roots of Yogi Tea
Yogi Tea is rooted in the ancient, proven Indian science of Ayurveda, the wisdom of the balance of body, mind and soul. In the early Yoga- and New Age movement of the 1960s and 1970s, Yogi Bhajan brought this recipe from India when he came to the West in 1969 to open the teachings of Kundalini Yoga to a wider audience. With his students he shared his Ayurvedic wisdom and knowledge of a healthy life and the use of selected herbs and spices, and served that delicious "Tea of the Yogi" to his students after the yoga classes, which soon was branded as Yogi Tea® and became available in the first health food stores.
Ayurvedic Spices & Herbs for Body and Soul
The classic Yogi Tea recipe consists of five spices: cinnamon, ginger, cloves, cardamom and black pepper. These spices have a warming and tonic effect. Boiled with water in the correct mixing ratio according to the original Ayurvedic recipe, a tasty tea like a "drink of the gods" is produced. Over the years, many other Ayurvedic Herbal Recipes were added - today people all over the world appreciate the special Yogi Tea flavors of more than 80 selected herbs and spices from organic farming, which result currently in 44 different Yogi Tea® varieties whose incomparable flavor and beneficial effects promote the joy of life and vitality of many.
Yogi Tee & Organic Farming
Since the early 1980s, all Yogi Tea varieties are produced exclusively with ingredients from certified organic cultivation. As a pioneer of Ayurvedic herbal and spice teas, Yogi Tea® supported organic farming from the very beginning. In a time when there were hardly any organic products and also no organic certificates, and products from pure sustainable agriculture were rare, employees of Yogi Tea® traveled to the far corners of the world to find the best organic ingredients for the unique tea blends.
Organic farming contributes to save the world in its beauty, fertility and vitality and renounces the use of synthetic chemical pesticides, Nitrogen fertilizers and genetic engineering. By a particularly natural and sustainable economy, soil, water and air are protected and the unique biodiversity of our planet can be preserved. A recycling economy with possibly closed nutrient cycles can conserve raw material resources and reduces energy consumption.
Yogi Tea's organic certifications
All Yogi Tea® products carry the EU-Bio-Seal which stands for high-quality herbal and spice teas from a strictly controlled organic production, processing and storage. Similarly the suppliers of Yogi Tea's organic ingredients are certified companies of organic farming and are being verified by official inspection bodies such as the IMO. In addition to the EU organic logo, the Yogi Tea® herbal and spice teas are awarded several national organic seals.
Yogi Tea & FSC® – careful use of forest resources
The annual loss of forests is estimated at 15 million hectares worldwide, which corresponds to about 50% of the German forest area. Yogi Tea® packs carry the FSC® logo: all paper-based packaging materials are FSC® certified.
The Yogi Tea teabags are biodegradable and can be disposed of in compost. They have no metal clip, are oxygen bleached, free of genetically modified material and free of plastic. They are made of Manila hemp, also known as Abacá, a type of banana native to the Philippines, whose fibre was originally used to make ropes and is ideal for teabags. The bag thread is made of organic cotton and the label is made of FSC® certified paper.
Yogi Tea® thus supports the careful use of valuable forest resources.
Yogi Tea & Yoga
Yogi Tee® is perfect to support the yoga and meditation practice, because the harmonious spice and herb mixtures can help to bring the body into balance and to aid in cleansing processes which are initiated through the practice of yoga. Soul and senses experience a wonderful fragrance and a velvety relaxation as well as increased attention and mindfulness.
In Kundalini Yoga Yogi tea is used to strengthen the nervous system and to better master the cleansing Yoga exercises.
Yogi Bhajan & Yogi Tea
Yogi Bhajan was trained by healers and Yogis of the Himalayas and was declared Master of Kundalini Yoga at age 16. In 1969 he came to the USA where he began to train yoga teachers. The time was due for change and new lifestyles. In these first yoga classes was offered a deliciously spicy drink made of cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger and pepper. It was called "the tea of the Yogi": YOGI TEA.
