Above - Anhad CD

On their second album Above, the Malaysian band Anhad consequently carries forth their unique musical tradition of fusing Mantras and Shabads with influences from Rock-, Grunge- and Blues-music. Traces of bands like U2 or Nirvana can be heard – bands which influenced the musicians of Anhad since their childhood, while growing up in the traditional Sikh-lifestyle.
Now, one might think that spiritual music and rock music don’t go together? Well, with their album Above, the musicians of Anhad once more impressively prove otherwise!

Partly meditative and inwarded, using traditional and acoustic instruments, partly expressively dynamic and rocky with a classical instrumental setting of E-guitar, Bass and Drums, the band broadens their self-initiated new musical genre of spiritual (Rock-) music by adding a couple of ingenious and moving spiritual songs and mantric chants to it.

Truly unusual and unique, and by all means very effective… the music of Anhad reaches a new musical peak through its own specific way, while allowing an ever deep musical experience of the timeless power of Mantras and Shabads from the tradition of Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma.
