The Ayurvedic concept of Agni (digestive fire) and Ama (metabolic waste) is traditionally of utmost importance. Consuming unsuitable or inappropriate food, stress and an unhealthy lifestyle are some of the main reasons for Agni imbalance, which can result in incomplete digestion of food. "Ama" means "undigested".
According to Ayurvedic science, the accumulation of Ama can lead to various disorders. Ama can block the Shrotas (subtle channels of the body), cause an imbalance in the Dosha balance, and negatively affect Dhatu nutrition (Dhatu = tissue layers).
Agni is referred to in Ayurveda as the "digestive fire". When Agni is in balance, nutrients are better digested and made more readily available to the body.
