The Shruti Box is an easy-to-learn Indian musical instrument that is traditionally used for chant accompaniment by producing sonorous drone tones. It is ideal for improvised singing, devotional mantra chanting and overtone singing as well as a gentle sound carpet for relaxation after a yoga session. How the Indian Shruti Box works

The construction of the acoustic Shruti Box is identical to that of an Indian Harmonium, but without keys. Like a harmonium, it has tone-producing Reeds or tone tongues made of brass. At the front there are individual keys for each tone, which are supplied with air by the manually operated bellows when the key is open. The air flows through the reed and produces a sonorous, full and long-lasting sound. By opening several keys, full chords and basic tunings can be produced. By pumping the bellows more gently or more forcefully, many different intensities can be created.
