Manjistha (botanical name: Rubia cordifolia) is also known under the names madder root or colouring root, because this climbing plant was formerly used for dyeing fabrics.
In Ayurveda, the dried root of the Manjistha plant is used as a powder. According to Ayurveda, the Manjistha root is said to be Tridosha-balancing (balances all Doshas).
Its taste is bitter, tart and sweet, the effect is "heating".
Manjistha is often used in food supplements, for example for supporting fasting or cures, as well as in cosmetic products, for example for skin creams.
